Susan George

Description

Susan George has been directed by her creativity all her life. Born in Fort Erie, Ontario, she began painting and crafting in grade school. She attended the University of Western Ontario and obtained a combined honours degree in English and Fine Art, with a major in painting.

After marrying and moving to Halifax in 1983, Sue gained experience in retail display and then developed her business “Visual Vantage Merchandising”. She retired after 18 years of designing various displays and décor for retail windows, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, tradeshows and special events.

Wishing to be home more with her two young sons, Sue began creating jewellery. Drawing on her design knowledge, she currently creates, markets and wholesales her “Mermaid Drops” across Canada and into New England.

Sue painted in acrylics sporadically during these busy creative years, but it wasn’t until she was invited to paint with The Crossroads Artists in 2010 that she finally allowed herself the time needed to “really paint again” and it thoroughly enjoying the process. She is currently showing and selling her works in the St. Margaret’s Bay area.

Always captivated by The Group of Seven and The Impressionists, Sue loves using intense colour, lots of texture and has the desire to keep her work free, loose and large. Subject matter often reveals itself in the photographs she has taken. The grandeur and beauty of Nova Scotia’s lakes and forests are currently inspiring her.
